Welcome To The Lighthouse Keeps Her
An Homage to the sea.
A 200 year old lighthouse keepers house, set atop the cliffs at Youghal Bay.
It was home to every lighthouse keeper and their family who guided seafarers safely into or around Youghal bay. Its walls hold the seafaring history of the town and its long heritage with the sea. It sits beneath the beam of Youghal lighthouse, which has lit the waterways since 1190. This site was also home to the first female lighthouse keepers in the world, nuns from the order of St Anne’s. Legend also has it that Sir Walter Raleigh planted the first potato in Ireland in the garden right here at the keepers.
After an extensive renovation, the keepers has been brought carefully up to modern standards whilst retaining all of its charm and character. It has been a finalist in RTE’s Home of the year and also voted as Irish Independents top 50 places to stay in Ireland.
